God's Anointing

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.

1 Corinthians 14:1

In such a short verse we have three instructions. Follow the way of love, an emphasis that rings out across the whole of the previous chapter, 1 Corinthians 13. Desiring the gifts of the Spirit, which were mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 and finally, an emphasis on prophecy - which will be explained further in 1 Corinthians 14. For God's gifts to flourish, the fertile ground of our lives must be enriched by God's character. Hence the need for yesterday's prayer focus before today's.

• nurture love

• desire (pursue, pray, and stretch your faith for) the gifts of the Spirit

• especially prophecy, which strengthens, encourages and comforts the church (1 Cor 14:3)

A Prayer

Lord, as I desire to grow in You, keep my motives pure as I step out in faith to embrace your gracious gifts. Right now, in these few seconds, bring something to mind that will encourage someone else. I wait. I wait on You. Amen.
